Chef Tereza Paim’s new restaurant to open at Salvador Bahia Airport

Leading Brazilian chef Tereza Paim will shortly be opening her first restaurant in an airport at Salvador Bahia Airport, a member of the VINCI Airports network. Bringing the flavours of Bahia and Brazil to Salvador Airport, Mesa de Tereza will open later this year. The project is the result of a partnership between Tereza and SSP DFA Restaurantes Brasil Ltda (SSP) who have been recently announced as operators of seven new restaurants at the airport.

Mesa de Tereza has been developed especially for Salvador Bahia Airport. Passengers will find the best of regional cuisine on the menu, with chef Tereza Paim’s unique tastes and style. Located in the landside food square and approximately 250m² in size, it will offer amazing views of the runway and delight diners at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant will become a favourite not only with passengers, but also with the many local people who choose the convenience of the airport for a family meal.

In addition to serving meals, some of Tereza’s handmade products, including farofas and spices, will be on sale. The perfect gift from Bahia!

Tereza commented: “I’m really excited to be opening my first airport restaurant, and in my home city too! It’s a great responsibility to represent the gastronomy of my country and I’m working closely with SSP to develop the menu, which will have lots of favourites from Casa de Tereza as well as from around Brazil.  As a regular traveller through the airport, it’s brilliant to be involved in a project that is going to make a big difference to the experience for passengers. I can’t wait to welcome people from around the world in to Meza de Tereza.”

Bahia Bar

In addition to Mesa de Tereza, SSP has created a unique bar for Salvador Airport. Located airside, the Bahia Bar will provide the ideal environment for relaxation. With decoration inspired by Bahia beaches, the new establishment will allow passengers to taste a variety of drinks and enjoy tasty meals, overlooking the airfield.

Chris Rayner, CEO of SSP Latin America said: “It’s really important to SSP that we reflect the tastes and traditions of the city we are operating in. In Salvador, we’re delighted to be opening Mesa de Tereza, the first airport restaurant with leading Salvadorian chef, Tereza Paim. Coupled with our specially created ‘Bahia Bar’, we’ve created two outstanding opportunities for customer to sample the amazing food of Bahia.”

DFA President, Leon Falic said: “Our new restaurants, particularly Mesa de Tereza and the Bahia Bar, together with our DFA Duty Free and DFA Duty Paid Stores will provide a unique sense of place experience for passengers going through Salvador Bahia Airport.”

“Bahia Bar is one of the establishments which is aligned with our purpose to value aspects of the local culture,” explained Marc Gordien, commercial director of Salvador Bahia Airport. Sense of place is one of the characteristics present in all 46 airports administered by VINCI Airports around the world. That means these terminals are no longer impersonal and reflect identity of the place where the airports are.

More options

Beyond Mesa de Tereza and Bahia Bar, SSP will also be opening a number of other restaurants including Ritazza, Italian brand Barzetti, the Mexican-inspired Mi Casa Burritos, Millie’s specialising in sweet, baked products, and Haven, which offers options for those looking for healthier choices. All of them will have a layout and menu adapted in order to value regional characteristics. All of the restaurants will be opening shortly in line with the renovation of the airport.
